Portion of Water Street closed
Water Street is closed to vehicles and pedestrians between Grace Street and Chestnut Street starting Wednesday, Jan. 17. This closure will allow work to begin on the $3 million Phase II of the city’s infrastructure improvement project in the area, following the completion of similar improvements at nearby Riverfront Park last year. This portion of the Phase II project will involve putting new water and sewer pipes beneath Water Street from Chestnut Street to just beyond Grace Street. The work is being done now to coordinate with construction of the River Place project at the site of the old Water Street parking deck, which is expected to begin this spring, about the time the city’s underground work is wrapping up.
The closure is expected to last through late April. All businesses in the vicinity will remain open.
