Council meeting, Aug. 7

Post Date:08/08/2018 11:17 AM

The Wilmington City Council will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Items of interest on the agenda include:

  • APPROVED. A resolution reassigning a contract to prepare and develop the city’s Land Development Code (LDC) to Community ReCode, LLC. In 2016, Michigan-based firm LSL Planning conducted a review of the city’s existing LDC as a critical step in beginning to implement the city’s long-term plan for growth and development (the Comprehensive Plan). The next phase will be to prepare and develop a new LDC. Reassigning the contract to Community ReCode will allow the city to ensure that key personnel remain attached to the project until its completion.

  • APPROVED. A resolution to approve an agreement with the NC Department of Environmental Quality to accept a $30,000 North Carolina Community Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant and provide $6,000 in matching funds. A companion ordinance would appropriate the $36,000, which will be used to purchase and install 23 recycling receptacles in high-traffic areas of downtown, including Market Street between Front and 2nd streets and South Front Street between Market and Orange streets.
  • APPROVED. Resolutions and an accompanying ordinance to amend the city’s agreements with Autumn Hall, Mayfaire and St. Mark Church for the construction of a median, a traffic signal and other improvements on Eastwood Road between St. Mark Church and Rogersville Road. The improvements are part of the overall 2014 Transportation Bond Eastwood Road Access Management Improvements Project. The amendments are to address the fact that project costs for both design and construction have increased since the agreement was executed two years ago. The project is slated to begin this fall and be complete in spring 2019.
