Wilmington Police arrested Courtnay Danielle Lawrence, 21,on the evening of Feb. 12.

The investigation into a hit and run revealed Lawrence intentionally attempted to strike a pedestrian, who is the father of her four children, and did strike the pedestrian with whom he was walking on Rutledge Drive last week.

The victim told officers she was walking back from the store with an acquaintance when she heard a horn honking and saw the man with whom she was walking jump out of the way around 9:50 a.m. Feb. 6. The driver of the suspect vehicle, a black sedan, intentionally swerved off the roadway to strike the pedestrians. The suspect struck the victim on her right hip, launching her into the air several feet, before landing on her left side. The victim suffered multiple injuries to her head, shoulder, hips and knees.

After nearly being struck, the male pedestrian fled the scene and did not return to provide his information.

Police identified Lawrence as the driver of the suspect vehicle on Rutledge Drive Wednesday morning after receiving multiple tips from the public. The male pedestrian has been identified and has a known dating relationship with Lawrence.

Investigators located a photo of Lawrence posing with the damaged car, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, that was posted to social media immediately after the incident.

Magistrate Laura Barnes issued Lawrence a $25,000 unsecured bond. Lawrence will make her first appearance in New Hanover County District Court at 2 p.m. today.
