Council meeting, Feb. 18
The Wilmington City Council met on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Items of interest on the agenda included:
- APPROVED A $94,675 contract with Good Earth Associates to plant 285 trees to help the city increase its urban forest canopy. The trees will be planted in areas that sustained tree loss and damage from Hurricane Florence. The trees will be wind resistant, predominantly large-canopied trees of different sizes that best fit available spaces. The trees are being funded by charges paid by developers that cut down trees rather than save or replant them, or fines paid for illegally cutting down trees without a permit.
- APPROVED A resolution to protect the city’s water supply by supporting the transfer of Cape Fear River Locks and Dams Bladen County from the US Army Corps of Engineers to another entity.
The next Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. The agenda for this meeting will be posted on the city's website on Friday, Feb. 28.
Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, which is located on the second floor of City Hall at 102 North 3rd Street. Parking is available in the Thalian Hall parking lot or in the city parking deck located directly across from City Hall.
