Last week the City released 75 Sterile Grass Carp into Greenfield Lake as part of our strategy to manage nutrient pollution, algae, and invasive vegetation at the lake. The carp will help control nuisance vegetation.
Other lake management strategies currently include:
- SolarBee Circulation/Aeration Devices: SolarBee aeration systems help increase water circulation and oxygenation of the lake's water.
- Continued UNCW monitoring and research of Greenfield Lake. Recent research led to the acquisition of an EPA 319 grant.
- City is collaborating with multiple community partners on an EPA grant project that aims to reduce nutrients flowing into the lake from the Jumping Run Branch tributary.
- Community outreach and education
