Water Street & Riverfront Park Improvements Project

The Water Street & Riverfront Park Improvements project is a compilation of several projects along the Cape Fear River from Market Street to Princess Street and includes renovation of Riverfront Park, repairs to the Market Street bulkhead, stormwater repairs at the intersection of Water Street and Princess Street, ADA improvements, and streetscape elements from Market Street to Princess Street. Additionally, the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is replacing the existing water and sewer lines within the project limits.

Due to a lack of funding for the USCG bulkhead repairs in front of the Alton Lennon Federal Building, the improvements will be made in two phases. All planned improvements will be made in the portion of Water Street from the intersection of Market Street and Water Street to just south of the main stairway to the Federal Building courtyard. From that point north, only the underground improvements will be constructed at this time. When funding becomes available for the USCG bulkhead repairs and the bulkhead work is completed, the remainder of the park improvements and streetscape elements will be installed through to Princess Street.
