The Commission’s purpose is to promote and endorse programs and policies to support, maintain and grow our urban forest, increase public education, and establish award and recognition programs as incentives to encourage a healthy, safe and attractive natural environment for the City of Wilmington.

- The City of Wilmington was one of only two NC cities selected by the North Carolina Forest Service to participate in a federal study to look at how urban trees can be used to improve the quality of our local waterways. Click here to learn more.
Recognizing the need to protect and promote our urban forest, the City of Wilmington’s City Council established the Wilmington Tree Commission on April 16, 1996. To Promote, Protect and Enhance our Urban Forest.
About the Commission
12 members: (7) voting City residents, (2) voting at large members, (3) ex-officio members with (1) each from Planning, Development & Transportation, Community Services and the City Arborist
Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, except the months of July and December. The group meets in the 5th floor conference room of the CresCom Bank building located at 115 North 3rd Street
Terms on Commission
Each member is appointed by the City Council for a term of not more than (3) years. No member appointed by the Council shall be eligible to serve more than (2) consecutive terms.
