Cultural Programs

This open studio class invites adults to explore their creativity, connect with others, and enjoy the benefits of making art in a welcoming, supportive community. Teaching artist Cammeron Batanides will kick off each Creating Art in Community class with a fun, 15-minute art lesson. These quick lessons will introduce participants to new techniques and concepts—and then you’ll have plenty of time to put what you learn into practice as you create your own masterpieces. All materials are included.

About the instructor: Cammeron Batanides is an internationally known fine artist and children’s book author/illustrator whose works have been featured across the United States, in Jamaica and throughout Canada, at the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and at the legendary Los Angeles Fine Arts Building.

Creating Art in Community is a FREE community art class open to everyone. No experience is necessary—just bring your creativity! Thanks to partner Creating Art in Community and sponsor Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center for making this class possible!

When: Tuesdays from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Program runs on the third Wednesday of each month starting on September 16th, from 5:00 - 7:00pm. No registration required.

When: September 16, October 21, November 18, and December 16 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

We provide the materials, you bring the inspiration! Enjoy meeting new friends and creating with a variety of mediums in a laid-back atmosphere. For ages 13-17. Free, and registration is recommended. Special guest instructor September 28 (Japanese Calligraphy) and October 26 (Japanese Fold-Dyeing).

When: Every other Monday: September 14th & 28th, October 12th & 26th, November 9th & 23rd, December 7th, 4:30 PM-6:00 PM

Join professional songwriter and musician CB Johnson for a three-week songwriting workshop at Halyburton Park! Explore the art of songwriting, learn techniques for turning ideas into lyrics and melodies, and develop your own original song in a supportive, creative environment. No songwriting experience is necessary—just bring your ideas and creativity!
