1898 Wreath Laying Ceremony & Clergy Luncheon

The 1898 Clergy Unity Luncheon and Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, as part of the community’s continued remembrance and commitment to unity.

The day will begin with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at 9 a.m. at 1898 Memorial Park, located at 1018 N. 3rd Street in Wilmington. The ceremony will honor the memory of those affected by the 1898 Wilmington Coup and Massacre and serve as a moment of reflection and collective remembrance.

Following the ceremony, the 1898 Clergy Unity Luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Cape Fear Community College’s Union Station – Daniels Hall, located at 502 N. Front Street, Wilmington, NC.

The luncheon will feature a keynote address by Pastor Mike Ashcraft, Lead Pastor of Port City Community Church, who will share a message on faith, unity, and reconciliation. Pastor Jermaine Armour of St. Luke AME Zion Church will serve as the emcee for the event.

This event is presented by New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington and co-sponsored by the New Hanover County NAACP.
