Public Open Gym

Gym Rules

Do:

  • Check in and display ID upon entry
  • Be respectful
  • Follow posted age requirements
  • Alert center staff if a problem arises
  • Wear appropriate athletic attire
  • When playing on court surfaces, athletic shoes must be worn
  • Keep track of your belongings, center staff are not responsible for lost or stolen items
  • Most importantly, Have fun!

Do Not:

  • Drink or eat in the gymnasium
  • Possess alcohol, drugs, or tobacco on city property
  • Possess firearms, knives, or weapons of any kind on city property
  • Display gang paraphernalia, which includes but is not limited to: bandanas, hats, and clothing
  • Hang on nets; dunking is only permitted in an officiated game
  • Damage the facility; users are responsible for all damages
  • Fight, horseplay, argue, or display abusive or inappropriate behavior or language

 

Cost: Free (pre-registration is not required)

  • Children ages 7-10 must be accompanied by an adult or a sibling 14 years or older.
  • Note: Special events, programs and league play may impact Open Gym times. Please call 910.341.7866 to confirm times.

Open Gym Hours are also offered at the Davis Center @ Maides Park.

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 
10 a.m. to noon

Youth Open Gym
Mondays through Fridays
4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Weekend Open Gym
Saturdays
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Adults with Disabilities Open Gym
Wednesdays
Noon to 1 p.m.

Indoor Pickleball
Fridays 
Noon to 3 p.m.

Reserve the facility!

The MLK Center has various spaces available to rent when there are no scheduled programs. The use of meeting rooms includes tables and chairs for indoor use only. If the kitchen is needed for rental, interested parties must complete theMLK Center Kitchen Rental Application.The City of Wilmington, hereinafter referred to as “City,” has priority scheduling of the facility or kitchen for programs, events and activities. Reservations times include event set-up and breakdown. Rental spaces are available to the public, groups, businesses and individuals by reservation on a first-come first served basis. Reservations must be made at least three (3) weeks in advance of the event.The requested date will not be held without payment. Applications are a request for use and do not guarantee a reservation.
