Volunteer With Us!

We rely on a strong volunteer base to provide programs, activities, and services to the residents of and visitors to the City of Wilmington. Some activities are regular and on-going while others are one-time events where you can volunteer for a few hours.

A majority of our volunteer positions require an interview and/or a background check. Volunteers who wish to drive are required to have background and driving history checks.

We accept volunteers ages 14 years and above depending on the activity. A volunteer application is not a guarantee of placement in a volunteer task or position unless you have confirmation of acceptance by a Parks & Recreation staff member.

Types of Volunteers

We have two categories of volunteers within the Parks & Recreation Department. We accept teens (ages 14-17) as well as adults (ages 18 and above).

Volunteer Application

A volunteer application is not a guarantee of placement in a volunteer task or position unless you have received confirmation of acceptance via Cynthia Holden. We accept short-term volunteers for special events as well as long term volunteers. The short-term volunteers working less than eight hours can be cleared through our I-lobby system in the centers. Anyone volunteering more than eight hours will be required to fill out a background check release form. A driver history check will also need to be done if you are required to drive. Volunteers between the ages of 14 and 18 would need a parental permission form filled out. To obtain an application please email Cynthia Holden

Volunteer Feedback Survey

This survey is optional, but we value your feedback. Please return within one week of volunteering. Thank you for volunteering and supporting our programs and community!
