Mayor Pro-Tem Kevin Spears Honored for Community Service

Mayor Pro-Tem Kevin Spears receiving NAACP Award.

City of Wilmington Mayor Pro-Tem Kevin Spears was honored with the Dr. Hubert A. Eaton Sr. Community Award for his longstanding service to the community. He received his award during the NAACP of New Hanover County's annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Sept. 12, which brought community members together for an evening focused on advancing political, educational, social, and economic equality in New Hanover County.

Mayor Pro-Tem Kevin Spears was first elected to the Wilmington City Council in 2019 and re-elected in 2023. Throughout his leadership, he has focused his public service on neighborhood engagement, equitable access to city resources, affordable housing, workforce development, and expanding technology-based opportunities for residents.
