Wilmington Police Department Named NCLEWA's 2026 Agency of the Year

The Wilmington Police Department has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Agency of the Year Award by the North Carolina Law Enforcement Women’s Association (NCLEWA). The award recognizes law enforcement agencies that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to supporting and advancing women in law enforcement through leadership, professional development, mentorship, and active engagement within the profession. NCLEWA recognized the WPD for its continued support and its commitment to professional development and collaboration. More than 20 members of the WPD attended or participated in this year’s conference. NCLEWA also noted that the department’s partnership and enthusiasm helped create an exceptional conference experience and reflected the collaborative spirit the organization strives to foster throughout North Carolina.

 

In addition, Sgt. Sgt. Kameko Howell was selected as the NCLEWA Woman of the Year, the highest recognition in North Carolina for a female in law enforcement.

 

WPD is grateful for the opportunity to support efforts to develop and empower women throughout the law enforcement profession. The agency looks forward to continuing the partnership with NCLEWA and supporting professional development opportunities for law enforcement personnel across the state.
