In celebration of National Public Works Week, the City of Wilmington invites you to Demo Day 2025—a free, family-friendly event designed to showcase the people, purpose, and presence of our hardworking public services teams.

This year’s national theme, highlights the everyday dedication of public works professionals who keep our city running—often without recognition, but always with impact.

So grab your coworkers, classmates, friends, or family and spend your lunch with us! Food trucks will be on site and city staff will be ready to show you the tools, equipment, and expertise they use to keep Wilmington safe, clean, and thriving!

    Did You Know?

    Wilmington's public services teams annually:

    • Collect trash, recycling, and yard waste from 31,000 residential customers 
    • Service over 400 miles of streets 
    • Clean and manage more than 900 miles of drainage systems 
    • Oversee more than 1,000,000 square feet of City-owned buildings 
    • Operate and monitor over 200 traffic signals 
    • Keep more than 650 City vehicles and equipment in working condition 
    • Maintain 48 parks (717 acres), 34 athletic complexes (551 acres), and 36 miles of multi-use paths and trails 

    They work quietly behind the scenes—but their impact is everywhere.
