About Fit For Fun Center

Welcome to the Fit For Fun Center, where little ones learn, grow, and explore through play—and their grown-ups join the fun! Operated by the City of Wilmington’s Parks & Recreation Department, this unique indoor play space is designed especially for children ages 6 months to 5 years old and their adult caregivers.

At Fit For Fun, play is powerful. Every leap, crawl, and game of pretend is an opportunity to build skills, spark imagination, and strengthen bonds. The motto? Play with a Purpose!
This bright, specialized community center is a go-to spot for Wilmington-area families looking for active fun and meaningful connection with their little ones. Grown-ups are encouraged to be hands-on, engaging right alongside their children to support early learning and development in a playful, age-appropriate environment.

What You'll Find Inside:

  • Large Indoor Playroom
Slides, tunnels, ride-on toys, and space to climb, crawl, and move — supporting gross motor development, spatial awareness, and coordination through active exploration.
  • Art Room
Snack tables, calming sensory nook, and rotating weekly craft projects like painting, gluing, water play, and sensory tools — encouraging fine motor skills, creativity, sensory processing, and early decision-making with visual support choice charts.
  • Small Toys Imaginative Playroom
Infant-friendly space and imaginative play centers including a play kitchen, dress-up station, train table, and manipulatives — promoting imaginative thinking, social-emotional skills, and fine motor development.
  • Fully Fenced Outdoor Playground
Space to run, climb, slide, and explore outdoors — providing opportunities for gross motor activity, coordination, balance, and outdoor sensory experiences.
  • Staff-Led Programs & Special Events
Story times, obstacle courses, music & movement days, parachute play, and more — fostering language development, listening skills, rhythm and timing, group participation, and caregiver-child connection.

A Space Made for Early Childhood

Fit For Fun is one-of-a-kind — a place created just for the early years. The focus is on learning through play and connection through participation. With an emphasis on free play and a mix of staff-led programming and special events, families can choose how to engage and enjoy. Programs and activities are designed to encourage movement, creativity, social interaction, and parent-child engagement — building strong foundations for lifelong learning. Both free play and structured opportunities support key areas of development, helping set children up for success while creating meaningful moments along the way.
Come play, create, explore, and make memories together at Fit For Fun!
