We’ve been hard at work building One City, a simple idea with a big impact. It means working together: fewer silos; stronger teamwork; and a shared focus on serving our employees, residents, and community. Curious about the "what" and the "why" behind the organizational realignment?
Due to persistent flooding in the Pirate Cove neighborhood and along Masonboro Sound Road during certain storm events, the City hired a consulting engineering firm to study the existing drainage system and determine which flood reduction improvements could feasibly be implemented.
In fall 2024, the City completed the necessary easement acquisitions needed for construction and long-term maintenance in the area.
The Pirate Cove Drainage Improvements project generally consists of replacing a portion of the existing storm drainage system within a portion of the Pirate Cove subdivision and improving an open channel that drains into the system to reduce flooding.
Construction is anticipated to start in early 2027 and will take 240 days.
