Layups for Linda Basketball Tournament
The second Layups for Linda event took place this August, bringing together public safety teams from across the state to compete in a basketball tournament in support of a very meaningful cause.
The Wilmington Fire Department Basketball Team claimed first place at the fundraiser, in honor of Linda Hoover. The event raised over $4,000 in support of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, which is the largest nonprofit organization in the world exclusively focused on finding a cure for every patient with multiple myeloma, a very rare type of blood cancer.
Linda Hoover, whose memory inspired the fundraiser, was born on April 25, 1970, in Easton, PA. She attended Virginia Tech, and earned both a bachelor and master’s degree during her time there. Later, she moved to Wilmington and became an active member in the community, often volunteering at the local humane shelter and participating in events such as Pawz in the Park.
The Wilmington Fire Department was proud to participate in the event and show their support for not only The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, but for Linda Hoover.
