Mayor Bill Saffo
Bio
For nearly two decades, Bill Saffo has had the privilege of leading the city he has called home his entire life. First elected in 2003 as a councilmember and then as mayor in 2006, he is one of the longest-serving mayors in North Carolina history, having earned the trust of Wilmington voters through 11 consecutive terms.
A proud Wilmington native, Mayor Saffo graduated from Hoggard High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Like many who grow up here, he chose to stay, building both his career and his life in the community that shaped him. Today, he serves as a real estate broker with Coldwell Banker Seacoast Advantage.
As the son of first-generation Greek immigrants and a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Mayor Saffo's roots have instilled in him a deep appreciation for community, service, and hard work. Whether supporting local businesses, championing neighborhood improvements, or helping shape Wilmington's future, his focus has always been on preserving what makes the city special while preparing it for the opportunities ahead.
In addition to his role as mayor, Saffo represents the City on the Wilmington Film Commission, Wilmington Business Development, the Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority Board, and the New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority Board. When he's not serving the community, he enjoys spending time with family and friends.
