Not every interaction between a police officer and a resident starts with a problem. Sometimes it starts with a simple act of kindness, a helping hand, or someone going out of their way to make life a little better for someone else.
Operation Bright Spot gives Wilmington Police officers the opportunity to recognize those moments. When an officer witnesses someone making a positive impact in our community, they can present that person with an Operation Bright Spot gift card as a token of appreciation.
It is one small way to celebrate the people who help make Wilmington stronger, one good deed at a time.

Throughout the year, we'll highlight some of the incredible people recognized through Operation Bright Spot. From neighbors helping neighbors to volunteers, young people showing leadership, and everyday acts of kindness, these stories remind us that there are bright spots all around Wilmington.

The gift cards are made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor who wanted to help Wilmington Police officers recognize the people making a positive difference throughout our city. The donor has chosen to remain anonymous so the focus stays on the people being recognized.
Every recognition is different. Wilmington Police officers who witness an action that reflected kindness, service, integrity, courage, or another positive contribution to our community use their discretion in choosing recipients.
Nope! There is no application, registration, or contest associated with Operation Bright Spot. Simply enjoy your gift card, according to the instructions provided.
Some recipients may be invited to share the story behind their recognition so we can celebrate the positive things happening throughout Wilmington. Sharing your story is completely optional. You may accept the gift and choose not to participate.
