This month, the City is celebrating National Parks & Recreation Month by honoring the people, places, and programs that make up our Parks & Rec Department. With the theme "The Power of...," the City is spotlighting the unique powers that each facility, employee, and activity brings to the community, recognizing the many ways parks and recreation enrich lives.

Throughout the month, the City invites residents to discover the Power of Parks & Rec, explore events and facilities through open houses, and meet the true superheroes behind the day-to-day work.

  • Open houses will be held July 25 at Fit for Fun, Sherriedale Morgan Fitness Center, Davis Center, MLK Community Center, and Halyburton Park. Times and special offerings vary, and more details can be found here.
  • As part of this year's celebration, visitors will also have the opportunity to collect a series of limited-edition superhero-inspired trading cards featuring some of Wilmington's parks, recreation centers, and facilities reimagined as larger-than-life characters. Each collectible highlights the unique "superpower" of a location and encourages residents to explore the many experiences available throughout the City's park system. Cards will be available at participating locations soon.

Whether you're visiting a neighborhood park, taking a fitness class, enjoying a community event, walking a trail, or trying a new recreational program, Parks & Recreation Month is the perfect time to experience everything Wilmington Parks & Recreation has to offer.
