Housing and Neighborhood Services Mission

The Department of Housing and Neighborhood Services was established in FY24 to oversee activities and functions focused on creating diverse, equitable, and vibrant neighborhoods through community development and housing services, code enforcement, and community engagement, education, and safety.

Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement enforces city ordinances that provide a safe community and vibrant neighborhoods. Code Enforcement Officers promote a healthy and safe environment for citizens and visitors.

Housing Division

Offers home repairs and improves safety of homes that have hazards and deterioration. Works with local banks to help working families purchase their first home. Provides quality rental choices for families, elderly residents, and for people with disabilities. Preserves and revitalizes neighborhoods.

Healthy Homes Programs

The Healthy Homes Program provides grant assistance to eligible residents to correct home hazards — such as critical roof repairs, electrical and plumbing repairs, door and window replacements, and mold remediation — that pose a risk to health and safety. Eligibility includes households or housing units where residents are below 80% AMI.

Community Development

Works with non-profit and other affordable housing developers to provide a variety of affordable housing opportunities throughout the city. Also Community Development supports the efforts of community based non-profits and other organizations to serve low-to-moderate income at-risk youth, elderly, homeless, victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and the disabled.
