Thomas & Willie Jervay Freedom Walk

Tree surrounding the Thomas Willie-Jervay Freedom Walk

This is a passive park with four benches and named in honor of the late Thomas and Willie Jervay.

The couple's locally run newspaper, Wilmington Journal, had a stated purpose that resonated deeply within the black community — to publish the news “without fear and without favor.” Founded and published more than eight decades ago, the Jervays made it their mission to fight against discrimination.
