The athletics program at the City of Wilmington provides opportunities for participation in team and individual sports including leagues, classes, special events and tournaments for youth and adults.

Basketball Leagues

General Program Information

  • Ages 4-6: Registration opens Aug. 1 with practices and games in September and October
  • Ages 7-15: Registration opens Sept. 1, practices start November, games start December
  • Ages 15-18: Registration opens May 1, with games in June and July

Ages 7 and Under Basketball Leagues (Fall 2024)

  1. Ages 6 and under (League begins September 9, 2024 and runs through October 23, 2024)
  • 5:30 P.M. on Mondays at the Davis Center (1101 Manly Ave) OR Wednesdays at the MLK Center (401 S. 8th St)

 2. Ages 7 and under (League begins on September 9, 2024 and runs through October 21, 2024)

  • 6:30 P.M on Mondays at the Davis Center (1101 Manly Ave) 

Ages 7-12

Season: November to February
Deadline to register: Oct. 27
Evaluation will be in November, followed by draft.


Ages 13-15

Season starts Jan. 11
Deadline to register: Dec. 11
Evaluation will be in December.

Age: 8-18

Practice: March through May and September through October

Junior Officials Program

  • Youth will receive training on how to operate the scorer's table as basketball officials for the City of Wilmington’s Basketball leagues. Life skills, leadership traits, professional conduct on and off the court will be taught through interactive and engaging activities and discussions.
  • Youth will participate in outdoor recreation activities and team bonding opportunities. Upon completion of the program, graduates can be hired to work for City of Wilmington’s Basketball leagues! Click here for the flyer!

Coach Pitch Baseball

Join Athletic staff as they embark in their Fall Coach Pitch League! PROGRAM IS FULL. Please contact a staff member to be placed on the waitlist! (See below) 

This program is $35/person and can be enjoyed by those between the ages of 7 and 9. 

  • League starts on September 10, 2024; ends on October 29, 2024
  • Games will be held at Olsen Park on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 p.m.

Youth Kickball League

The athletic staff's newest program: Youth Kickball League! 

This program is $35/person and can be enjoyed by those between the ages of 6 and 10 (8U-10U).


  • League starts on September 16, 2024; ends on October 24, 2024
  • Games will be held at MLK Center on Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m.

Homeschool Sports

Looking for a fun way to get active this fall? Join the City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation’s Athletic Staff for their Home School Sports program! This program is $35 per participant. THIS PROGRAM IS FULL! 
 
When? Tuesdays, Oct. 8th - Nov. 12th

We’ll be offering a variety of exciting sports such as:
