The City of Wilmington is actively monitoring forecasted conditions for the winter storm expected this weekend. The National Weather Service is predicting bitterly cold temperatures, dangerous wind chill values, and significant snowfall across the Wilmington area.

Current City Operations Updates:

  • The Skyline Center and all Parks facilities will be closed to the public on Sunday, Feb. 1.

  • Recycling and Trash Services: Routes normally collected on Monday, Feb. 2, will be serviced on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

  • City crews began pre-treating City-maintained roads with brine on Thursday in anticipation of wintry conditions.

Safety Reminders:

  • Residents are strongly encouraged to limit travel this weekend to reduce the risk of accidents and allow crews to work safely.

  • If travel is necessary, drive slowly, allow extra stopping distance, and watch for icy conditions—especially on bridges and shaded roads.

  • Protect people, pets, and pipes: Bring pets indoors, check on neighbors who may need assistance, and allow faucets to drip to help prevent frozen pipes.

  • Use heating sources safely and never run generators, grills, or propane heaters indoors to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

  • Keep emergency supplies on hand, including food, water, medications, flashlights, and batteries.

The City will continue to provide updates as conditions change.
