The City of Wilmington welcomes Jason Eaves as its new Safety and Risk Management Director, effective Monday, March 23.
Eaves joins the City from Brunswick County Public Utilities, where he has served as a Safety Officer for the past four years, leading safety audits, developing standard operating procedures, and implementing OSHA-compliant training programs. He brings more than a decade of experience in safety and risk management.
In his role with the City, Eaves will build the framework for the Safety and Risk Department and lead a citywide strategy focused on risk reduction, workplace safety, accessibility, and claims management. He will chair the Citywide Safety Committee, oversee incident and accident investigations, and track trends to implement proactive, preventative measures. His work will help ensure safety and accessibility are embedded in daily operations, planning, and decision-making across the organization.
"This new position reflects the City's view of safety as a shared, organization-wide responsibility," said City Manager Becky Hawke. "By bringing these functions together as part of our strategic realignment, the City will have a more proactive approach to safety, with greater focus on prevention, accessibility, compliance, and long-term resiliency. We are excited to have Jason's experience and leadership at the helm of this vital initiative."
Eaves holds a Certified Safety Professional designation and degrees in occupational safety and health and business management from Columbia Southern University and Kansas State University, respectively.
