Special Olympics is an international program of year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than one million children and adults with intellectual disabilities.   Locally we provide year round training for 600+ athletes. This includes 14 different sports,  summer camps, special events and more.   All programs are offered to the athletes at no cost.

There are many to become involved with Special Olympics:

  • Donate (all donations are 100% tax deductible)

Sports

Basketball
Training every Wednesday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Williston Middle School, 401 South 10th St.
3 on 3 & skills will be from 6-7 pm and 5 on 5 from 7-8 pm. 3 on 3 and skills will get a chance to attend the state level games this year.   State Tournament: November 9-11 in Charlotte, NC

Bocce
Practices are held every Tuesday at Inland Greens  through November from 5:30-7 p.m.
State Tournament: November 9-11 in Charlotte, NC

Flag Football
Practices at UNCW Rec field on Mondays  from 6-7:30 p.m.  until November 5th

Golf
Please call 341-7253 for details, practices will begin in September and will runs through November 9 at Inland Greens Golf Course   State Tournament: November 9-11 in Charlotte, NC

Soccer
Practices will run Aug – Nov, every Tuesday 6-7 p.m at at MLK center field (behind FFF at the 8th St Center).

Tennis
Practices begin August 23 and will run through Nov, every Thursday 4:30-6 p.m. at the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex (at Empie Park)   State Tournament: November 9-11 in Charlotte, NC 
 

Events

MedFest: TBA; FREE physicals and health screenings to get an updated Medical Form (that’s needed to participate in SONHC)

Dances & Socials: Halloween Dance will be held on Friday, October 26 at Halyburton Park

Fall Games: Fall Games will be held in late October (TBA) at Legion Stadium.

Bowling Tourney: Local tournament at Cardinal Lanes on Saturday, October 20

Fundraiser: The Annual Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 23, 2019.  Held at the Kure Beach Boardwalk.
