The City of Wilmington is excited to invite residents to Demo Day on Thursday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Skyline Center South parking lot, as part of the nationwide celebration of National Public Works Week. This year’s theme, “People, Purpose, Presence,” honors the professionals who work behind the scenes every day to keep our city running—quietly, consistently, and with great care.

With food trucks on site and hands-on demonstrations from the city’s dedicated public services teams, Demo Day offers an exciting opportunity to lunch and learn— discovering all the ways these professionals improve daily life in Wilmington.

Attendees will enjoy interactive exhibits and live equipment demonstrations from various departments including Stormwater Management, Sustainability, Parks and Urban Forestry, Streets & Sidewalks, Traffic Engineering, Fleet Services, Building Maintenance, and Recycling and Trash Collection.

These teams serve the Wilmington community year-round by:

  • Collecting trash, recycling, and yard waste from 31,000 residential customers
  • Servicing over 400 miles of streets
  • Cleaning and managing more than 900 miles of drainage systems
  • Overseeing more than 1,000,000 square feet of City-owned buildings
  • Operating and monitoring over 200 traffic signals
  • Keeping more than 650 City vehicles and equipment in working condition
  • Maintaining 48 parks (717 acres), 34 athletic complexes (551 acres), and 36 miles of multi-use paths and trails

Demo Day is free and open to the public. Residents can stop by Skyline Center to grab lunch from a local food truck, catch a live demonstration, and meet the team that keeps Wilmington running strong. There will be a recruitment table on-site to learn about current job openings and benefits.

Parking at the parking lot on the corner of Nutt and Brunswick streets. Map attached. More information at wilmingtonnc.gov/demoday2025.
